2022 Civic vs Mazda3
This year, the Civic has been fully redesigned to kick off the car's 11th generation. Not much has changed beneath the hood, as you still get a 4-cylinder or its turbocharged variant. The Touring trim receives many technology upgrades, including a digital instrument panel, a wireless charging pad, and wireless smartphone app integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Mazda 3 carries over the same design and technology from the 2021 Mazda3 model, with last year's two new engines along for the ride. Expect to find the same premium interior materials and design, available all-wheel-drive, crisp handling capabilities, and swift acceleration from the turbo engine. You can still expect to have a tightly packed back seat, with a lack of cargo volume compared to other small sedans.
2022 Honda Civic Interior
The Civics' interior looks subdued yet is far from dull. The materials are high-quality, and the controls are placed within the driver's reach, allowing taller adults to sit comfortably without feeling squeezed.
2021 Mazda3 Interior
The Mazda3 Interior lacks space for taller occupants, and the steering wheel doesn't allow it to telescope out far. The head and legroom in the rear are below-par, with sloping roofline cuts down on rear visibility. The Mazda3 cabin, however, has a clean design with premium materials.
2022 Honda Civic Exterior
The exterior also has a sophisticated but not overstated design. Snagging the Sport trim upgrades you to alloy wheels. If you go up to the Touring trim, you receive fog lights and automatic wipers.
2021 Mazda3 Exterior
The Mazda3's exterior offers a sporty but impractical look. You can upgrade for a sunroof, black-painted wheels, and a trunk lid spoiler. The base trim starts with alloy wheels and rain-sensing wipers.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance Comparison
The Civic has a base 158-horsepower four-cylinder engine paired to a continuously variable automatic transmission. The EX model upgrades you to a turbocharged version. The turbo's swift acceleration makes for a thrilling ride. While the base engine demands you floor it to get up to speed quickly, power builds aptly and smoothly with the turbo. Overall, the Civic remains composed with its handling and has some rather precise steering, making driving efforts easy and fun.
The Mazda3 receives its power from a standard 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that generates 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. You can upgrade to a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque or a turbo version with 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel. All-wheel-drive comes standard on the Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo. The turbo provides a ton of power with a lot of initial thrusts.
2022 Honda Civic Sedan Review
Reviews indicate that the Civic doesn't disappoint. Drivers are slightly bummed about the exterior design but otherwise enjoy how the Civic handles. Drivers also enjoy the multitude of new standard technology features that come on the Touring trim.
2022 Mazda3 Review
The 2022 Mazda3 is still relatively new, so there aren't many consumer reviews. But if it's anything like the 2021 model, drivers will enjoy its sleek and sporty style.
