Air Conditioning
The air conditioning system is comprised of a Compressor, Condenser, Expansion Valve and Evaporator that produce cool air to refresh you in the heat of the summer. A chemical called refrigerant that is used in a cooling mechanism such as this is compressed in the compressor which is then turned into a hot gas and is cooled to a liquid in the condenser and travels to the expansion valve. Due to this rapid expansion of compressed gas, the air conditioning system is able to make the air cold in a short amount of time.
What can go wrong?
Corrosion and condensation may begin to build up over time which will cause the heater core to leak, resulting in foggy windows and an ideal breeding ground for mould and other bacterias. A leak will be easier to detect because unpleasant smells such as rotten eggs may be present.
What can you do?
Since the air conditioning system tends to need less maintenance, it doesn't mean it's maintenance free. Make sure the condenser is free from obstruction (usually sits in front of the radiator) and check the tension on the belt on the compressor to make sure it's connected properly. Before turning on your air conditioning full blast, lower your windows to let the hot air circulate; it's easier for the system to cool already cooled air. Be sure to have a system's check when required by a service technician.
